Message from the President
National University Corporation Kochi University was established on the principle that, ‘in accordance with the spirit of the Fundamental Law of Education’, we shall contribute to both the local and international communities by promoting the development of opportunities for learning and research and the fostering of human resources.
We believe that education and research are the proper function of the university. All universities are obliged by their own efforts to constantly pursue the goals of self-reinvigoration and the promotion and expansion of learning on the basis of free creative thinking and on the knowledge that we have inherited from our predecessors. The products of these efforts must always meet the varying needs of society and the times. Since the National University Corporation system was introduced, Kochi University has continued the development of its special character further and its promotion of those kinds of higher education that can help youth turn their knowledge into wisdom in this knowledgebased society. National University Corporations today are required to accelerate the reappraisal of their progress and the creation of unique features. Our university in particular is also faced with fundamental new developments.
Kochi University aims to be flexible for CHANGE to meet the needs of the times, and to take this change as a good CHANCE to face the CHALLENGE to CREATE a university highly regarded by the 21st century society.
We believe that, as it evolves through creating an engine for the development and transmission of knowledge solidly based in the community and on practical science, and as it makes use of the great benefits that stem from the Black Current that runs along the Kochi coast, Kochi University will produce an even higher standard of practical and academic research and education, while training individuals who can make meaningful contributions to society from local to international levels.
Finally, I would like to appeal to you for your heartfelt support and sympathy in the making of our university ever and ever a better one. Thank you.
